Filmmaker Spotlight – Julia Lemos Lima

This week we are celebrating Brazilian documentary filmmaker, Julia Lemos Lima!

Julia was a OWM Production Fund grantee in 2016, for which she filmed her short doc ‘Breaking the Silence’, a film about how Brazilian women deal with sexual harassment and sexism in their daily lives. This film was selected for the London Feminist Film Festival.

Julia was also selected for the Global Short Docs Forum 2018 with her project, ‘Afrofunk Rio’ – a documentary that follows a group of Afrofunk female dancers who are using dance to help empower the women of Rio de Janeiro.

“It was one of the best professional experiences I’ve ever had in my life, truly. Not only because we were dealing with very talented industry people, but mostly because they were also so receptive and generous.”

– Julia Lemos Lima, GSDF 2018 Participant
